King Cake - Galette des Rois

So if you've not eaten enough over Christmas and New Year, here in France it's time for more! Galette des Rois is a celebration of the three kings and Epiphany and is the excuse to indulge still further.

There are two types of this delicious cake, one is a sweet brioche topped with glace fruits to represent the jewels of the kings crowns the second is a puff pastry filled with sweet almond frangipan, both are equally delicious and both will also include a 'feve', usually a small ceramic representation of one of the characters to be found in the stable. Every galette des Rois comes with a paper crown and the person lucky enough to find the 'feve' in their slice gets to wear the crown and is king for the day.
